Cycle routes Near St Faith's

The Bude Canal cycle route begins around 12 minutes from St Faith’s and offers a flat, family-friendly ride along the peaceful towpath. Originally opened in 1823 and one of the only canals in Britain to use inclined planes instead of locks, the route winds past calm waters, wildlife habitats, and open countryside. It is perfect for relaxed riding where you may spot herons, kingfishers, and even otters along the water’s edge.

This scenic ride starts about 5 minutes from St Faith’s, beginning at Sandymouth and following quiet country lanes and bridleways towards Bude. The route offers sweeping views of dramatic cliffs, folded rock formations, and wide beaches, making it one of the most picturesque local cycles. With gentle gradients and plenty of stopping points — including cafés and viewpoints — it is ideal for a half-day adventure.

Tamar Lakes Circular Cycle Route

Located around 20 minutes from St Faith’s, the Tamar Lakes circular route offers a smooth 5km off-road loop around the Upper Lake. The trail is wide, well-maintained, and suitable for all ages, with beautiful views of woodland, open water, and wildlife. As a designated nature reserve, Tamar Lakes is home to rare birds and dragonflies, and visitors can combine cycling with paddleboard or kayak hire for an active day out.

The Camel Trail

The Camel Trail is around 40 minutes from St Faith’s and is one of Cornwall’s most famous and accessible cycling routes. Stretching for 18 miles of flat, traffic-free cycling, it follows a former railway line through woodland, riverside scenery, and the stunning Camel Estuary. The most popular section runs between Wadebridge and Padstow, offering cafés, cycle hire centres, and spectacular views across the water.
